(1820-1882) French photographer. In 1850 he invented the waxed paper negative, a more efficient version of the calotype where the paper is waxed before being coated with silver iodide. He also experimented with printing images using more than one negative, notably in his detailed seascapes which use a separate negative for sea and sky.
